This is the famous Heubach boy in in a bear body. Certainly he isn't simply a boy in a bearskin (as I've called them before). Not many boys can scratch the back of an ear with their toes. This isn't specifically a snow baby because the bear isn't a polar bear, but this bear looks adorable with snow babies. I didn't know for many years that these pieces, whether polar or brown bears, came in several sizes. I saw so few of them. But they do. This one is nearly 3.5" tall. If you look at the examples in my book, it is the largest size of this pose I've seen. He is in beautiful condition. The only "flaw" I might note is a factory flaw: a bit of the inside of his right hind leg isn't painted. You can see that in this picture which was taken with the bear at eye-level. The paint didn't wash off that spot because this is a fired piece.
Heubach is famous for their beautiful faces, and this piece shows that very well. They are also noted for their realistic poses. Hmmmm. $925. Make offer. SOLD

Mary Morrison's German Snow Babies
Antique German Snow Babies on mounds
Pic 8.31 This pair of snow babies is large and rare. They measure almost 4.25" including their bases. They are among the snow baby children I call "yellow mitt" babies for obvious reasons. All of the others I've seen are container pieces (see 7.30-7.34a). All wear the same, distinctive clothing, and all are beautifully detailed. None has a manufacturer's mark to help us know what factory they came from, but I am beginning to get a handle on that.
My book shows these two with the only original sleds I have ever seen. This pair carry replacement sleds (not old) which would fit better with new, slightly longer, neutral-colored strings attached.
Please see pictures of the girl's right arm which was broken and well repaired at some time. I only noticed it when I first photographed it because it isn't visible looking at her straight on. She must be tilted back to see it. $850. Make offer. Offer Accepted. SOLD

Pic 8.17a Now, this piece has been very well cared for! Yes, they are paper flowers, but they are still fragile and they look quite new. (Well, maybe they are replacements?) The rest of the piece is in excellent condition as well. Notice the base of this piece. Haven't we seen that base somewhere before? But this boy doesn't have yellow gloves. Still, I believe they must have been made in the same factory. This boy is even rarer than the yellow mitt children above. I would say he is very rare. The entire piece including the base is 4" tall. The only example of his mate is shown in my book as 8.17b. I have not seen nor heard about a mate with a snowed finish. This boy has that beautiful Ivory Snow complexion and more curls than any boy should have. $875. Make offer. Offer Accepted. SOLD
Pic 1.5a large and magnificent example of this comic piece depicting Admiral Peary and Dr Cook in their search for the North Pole. This piece was made in two sizes; this is the larger size.
If you have been hoping to add this piece to your collection, this is a wonderful example. The faces are terrific. This must have brought a lot of laughs when it was first released! Amazingly, both Admiral Peary's grandson and great grandson felt certain that the Peary family never saw this pose. They were both surprised to see it's picture. $850. Make offer.

Pic 10.210 a, b, and c I have owned this set for over 20 years, and I believe in that time I have seen very few of these babies offered on eBay. And I have never seen or heard about any others that belong to this set. If you have other information, I would love to hear from you. As you see, the children all wear bright red mittens and shoes. I see no wear to any parts so I assume that they are a fired paint. The faces and sleds and skis are also fired paint, but those parts are not shiny. Each piece is stamped Germany in a circle (but not a donut) on the underside. This is an uncommon mark. The snowsuits and snowy mounds are textured, but there is no added granular snow. I am offering these as a set. $165

Pic 2.8 This is a rare Galluba and Hoffman snow baby showing three school children -- two brothers, probably responsible for their younger sister -- on their way to or from school, clothing heavy with snow, molded so naturally that it comes as no surprise how sought after these G&H pieces are. This is the exact piece shown in my book. The only damage is the missing braid end on the front of the girls dress. Oddly, the back braid, which is nearly always broken, is undamaged here. $950. Make Offer.
