Like Pic 8.4b in my new book, this Heubach bearskined boy assumes a pose I love to show. From the back he looks just like a bear, but from the front view he is not at all ordinary! This example is incised with the Heubach "rising sun" mark. The bear's body is so realistically modelled that we have to stop and realize that a boy couldn't possibly sit in that position. The blending of bear and boy (oops, is it a girl?) works perfectly. 3.5" $1450 Reduced to $1087.50
A sweet faced Santa riding a polar bear to deliver presents to the children who live in cold climates. This exact piece is shown in Pic 13.31a of my new book. The paint is all original and has only a few rubs. The snow is very clean considering its age. It's clear that this rare piece was well cared-for. It measures 2.37" high. $365 SOLD
The exact example shown in Pic 10.74 of my new book. Mama, dressed like an Eskimo, pushes twins in a buggy sled. I have seen examples of this piece where the mom's shoes were snowed like her coat. I find it very interesting that there is a sprinkling of snow on the red coat of paint. I think that the painter may have been sitting near the crushed porcelain and dropped a few sprinkles on it while the paint was drying. As you can see, the paint on this example is in excellent condition. 2.25" $365.
Pic 2.52, the exact Galluba & Hofmann snow baby piece shown, and the only example of this pose I've ever seen. Two children, simply dressed, carry large stoneware pots. The girl carries the extremely thin and delicate pot lid in her right hand. For realism, the boy's pant button is undone. Notice the unusual hat the girl wears -- is it a scarf pinned in front? It won't protect her the way a sunbonnet would... 4.25" SOLD
13.29a An excellent example of a rare snow baby Santa riding a camel. Instead of water bags strapped to the camel's neck Santa is toting more presents. Notice the fringed camel blanket that falls all the way to the snow. 2.62" $450 Reduced to $337.50 SOLD
13.29b A rare and excellent example of Santa rides a elephant. The elephant looks slightly comic, to me, unlike the more realistic camel. 2.37" $425 Reduced to $318.75 SOLD
13.14 Santa finds a ride on an English Christmas cracker strapped to a toboggan. He looks pretty pleased with his choice of transportation. 1.75" $300 Reduced to $225
13.12b Santa is number 1 in this race. He'd better be fast, because he doesn't have a very big pack. Won't he have to make multiple trips back to the North Pole to finish his job? 1.62" $300 Reduced to $225
13.10a This benevolent-looking Santa drives a sporty yellow car. His pack ride in the rumble seat, which is sometimes called a Dickey. 1.62" $300 Reduced to $225
13.28 Santa and his helper elf ride a yellow train engine. This is the Japanese version. In my book I show the Japanese and German versions side by side to emphasize how similar they are. 1.75" $75 Reduced to $56.25
